Arabic Baby Names - Origins & Meanings

Most Arabic names are taken from Arabic words with specific meanings, this usually signals the good character of the named person.

Old Arabic names are based on a long naming system which is not always easy to follow for those used to a naming convention where people have given, perhaps middle and family names. Rather a full chain of names is used throughout the Arab world.

Due to the importance of the Arabic language in Islam, the vast majority of Muslims in the world use Arabic names. However it is not common outside the Arab world to employ the full naming conventions.

Many Arabic countries are now adopting a Western approach to naming, one such country is Lebanon, this is partly due to it's French colonial past.
